Free Eye Tests And Employer Support
You might be entitled to a free eye test—especially if you're eligible under the NHS or covered by your employer. Many businesses now include eye care as an employee benefit, so it's worth checking your contract. At Priory Opticians, we support this initiative and are happy to advise you on entitlements. Good vision supports productivity and overall well-being, so take advantage of the help available to look after your eyes.

I've always used specsavers and other high street brands for eye checks until they completely messed up my prescription and refused to give me my money back. After such negative experience, I decided to go local and try Priory Opticians. I couldn’t be happier, they’re qualified, incredibly professional, and actually take the time to check your eye health (unlike other places that just want to sell new frames). If you’re looking for a reliable and professional optician, this is the place to go.

Types Of Eye Conditions
Age-Related Macular Degeneration?
Age-related macular degeneration is a medical condition which usually affects older adults that results in a loss of vision in the centre of the visual field (the macula) because of damage to the retina. It occurs in “dry” and “wet” forms. It is a major cause of visual impairment in older adults.
Dry Eye Management
Dry eye management aims to improve comfort and protect the eye surface when the eyes do not make enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Management may use artificial tears/lubricating eye drops, gels or ointments, warm compresses, and eyelid cleaning. Taking regular breaks from screens, using a humidifier or avoiding dry/smoky environments, temporarily reducing contact lens wear or, in more severe cases, prescription treatment or referral to an eye specialist.
Myopia Management
Myopia management is used to slow down the progression of short-sightedness (myopia), especially in children whose prescription is getting stronger as they grow. It may include Specially designed glasses lenses; special contact lenses, including soft lenses or overnight lenses called 'orthokeratology'; or atropine eye drops, in some cases.
Healthy Eyes Start With A Healthy Lifestyle
Looking after your eyes means more than just wearing glasses—it involves overall health. A poor diet and lack of exercise can contribute to eye issues like vision problems and ARMD. Our team believes in proactive care, educating patients on lifestyle changes that support vision. Whether quitting smoking or increasing your intake of leafy greens, we'll help you take the steps needed for long-term eye health.
